Back in August, when I was in Stuttgart, Germany, I stopped by the Mercedes Benz museum. They had a demonstration of a restored one cylinder four stroke gasoline engine “car” — the Benz Patent Motorwagen. It was the first one built in 1886.
We’ve come a long way since then, but I can imagine how exciting it was to drive one of these back then.

11/29/02:
After a long hiatus, I’m back on the web and will be tweaking the style sheets of this site to make it look nicer.
Added 8/7/04:
I’ve redone the site with HTML::Mason using some of the Mason HQ code. Bear with me as we get stable again.
Added 3/7/05:
I’ve migrated the site to WordPress. Maybe at some point I’ll clarify what style of publishing i’m trying to support.
Added 7/20/05:
Moved to typo. I was wary because of having to learn Ruby and an MVC framework (Rails) just to make basic changes, but that wariness has passed.

In the summertime, people should work from 9pm to 5am, eat
“dinner”, socialize until 11am and then sleep from 11am to 7pm.
Benefits of this behavior is that during the hours of the highest
energy use (noon-6) because of air conditioning, computing, lighting,
etc. we reduce consumption because all we are doing is sleeping.
Today I fell asleep at 7pm instead of 11pm. I’m sure it was
because it was a sunny 90 degree day. The sun sapped me of a few
hours of energy.
