[markup=]I'm sorry to report that I was at Emocha on Friday, August 18th and it was business as usual. Today, Monday August 21st, it was locked up tighter than a drum and most of the fixtures were gone. A note was posted on the door that there were problems with the lease. I'm going to miss the staff and place.

I think emocha cafe is a refreshing addition to the community. The cafe is always spotless and has a very relaxing atmosphere. Every staff member I have met has always been very enthuiastic and professional. As far as the comments about food taking a while to prepare, I’d rather wait while they prepare my food because quite honestly, it’s worth the short wait. You’re not talking fast food here in the pre-made sense. Sandwiches and salads are made to order. Have you had their roast beef? It’s awesome. Their selection of teas is unmatched and I very much enjoy going in there in the afternoon for a pot of their green tea. Although I never seem to make it there on bakery day, I wish they had more chocolate to enjoy with my tea.

Have no idea why someone claimed eMocha to be fast food, it is not…it is a cafe which does offer restaurant type food. As i noticed, all the sandwiches are freshly made and grilled (these are actually upscale Italion type of sandwiches which you will find at only few places in Bay Area and in restaurants only). All the salads are also actually freshly made at eMocha, which is why Caesar Salad with Chicken is my favorite and another favorite is the Primivera a salad which you only find at fine dining places. Also, I was also told the an eMocha employee the pizza is freshly baked and does take about 10 minitues.

(continued)
“button” espresso machines. (They also, conviniently, construct the barista area to prevent the customer for being able to see how exactly their drink is being made.) As for the lunch sandwiches, we never claim that they will come out “fast,” but there is no reason that they should take 10-15 minutes (unless, of course, it was particularly busy that day and there were multiple lunch orders.) We have a unique challenge of trying to offer resturant-quality food without the luxory of having resturant facilies (i.e. dedicated cooks, lots of space, etc.) all while many customers expect the sandwich to come out as quick as a Burger King whopper. And finally, regarding the warning to not going into dealings with the owner, because he is “untrustworthy.”
I don’t think it’s fair make a statement like that without providing examples of why you feel that way. If you or someone you knew had an incident with the owner, or had a situation that didn’t meet your satisfaction, that’s one thing. It’s better to explain what happened and let others decide for themselves, instead of simply telling people to not deal with the owner. Anway, sorry to ramble on. Just my two cents. It seems that most of the people who come into our cafe like the place, and come back often. But, like with anything in life, you can’t please everyone.

A few days ago, one of my customers told me that there has been some discussion about the eMocha cafe on the internet, so, out of curiously, I figured I’d search the net to see what I could find. It would seem that most of the unfavorable reviews were from when the store first opened, and it seems that most people, although critical, were able to give us the benefit of the doubt for being in our “beta” stage. Well, the fact is that we are still a new company, and still operating in “beta” stage. As with any new business, we learn new things every day, and we adapt our policies and procedures based on what we’ve learned. I believe that some of the criticism I’ve read about eMocha has been valid (such as drinks being made incorrectly, etc.). But some of the criticism, however, is unwarrented. For instance, I have to disagree with the comment stating that it’s “unprofessional” to pour our espresso shots from a shot glass into the cup. If that were the case, then not only eMocha, but Bay Street Coffee in Fremont, along with the thousands of other coffee shops in the United States which use manual espresso machines are unprofressional, as well. The only coffee shop I know that pours the shots directly into the cup is Starbucks, in which most of its locations use an automatic “button” espresso machine. (They also, conviniently, construct the barista area to prevent the customer from being able to see exactly how their drink is being made.) As for the lunch sandwiches, we never claim that they will come out “fast,” but there is no reason that they should take 10-15 minutes (unless, of course, it was particularly busy that day and there were multiple lunch orders, or we were short-staffed.) We have a unique challenge of trying to offer resturant-quality food without the luxory of having resturant facilies (i.e. dedicated cooks, lots of space, etc.) all while many customers expect the sandwich to come out as quick as a Burger King whopper.

hmm…. frappuccino-like drinks are suppose to be too sweet, especially if you order one with a flavor ( i know Starbucks people actually pour caramel sauce or other sauce in cup first before the drink ). And I know allot of upscale cafe’s in SFO use shot glasses for espresso shots, for presentation. And eMocha is owned by investors and a corporation, with one investor working at the location.

The frappuccino-like drinks are too sweet. While the espresso is good, pouring it into a shot glass and then into a coffee cup is unprofessional. The food is definitely not “fast” and expect to wait 10-15 minutes for a sandwich or salad. Local businesses should not get into dealings with the owner. He is untrustworthy.

I have been visiting eMocha Cafe (Union City) and both Starbucks (Industrial Ave and Decoto Rd for last 2-3 months. Here are few quick notes i noted about both, not in order:

Starbucks barista’s have became lazy and keep using the old milk and not fresh (last week i was given milk sitting in a jug which was cold, no steaming of the milk was done)

Most of the starbucks drinks are drenched in syrup.

At eMocha you can save on average about $4.00 on 10 drinks ( this is based on purchase with eMocha eCard on there Creme Brulle drink compare to starbucks caramel Macchiato).

Espresso shot at eMocha cafe are really impressive (u can see your espresso shot be pulled in a clear shot glass at eMocha), you will only know this if you drink espresso based coffee drinks and know the difference between good and bad espresso shots.

eMocha people are still slow and need to work on the faster speed.

It looks as eMocha grinds the coffee beans through the day.

Another good point about eMocha is customers can watch each drink being made, which is good if you are paying close to $3 to $4 dollars for coffee.

Both use fresh whip cream, starbucks is little bit too sweet.

Looks like eMocha does use fresh milk all the times, which is really important for espresso based coffee drinks.

Also, if u like to study eMocha does have better sitting capacity and quieter area in the back side, which is used of parties, as well

Basically, all upscale coffee shops (Starbucks, Peets Coffee and eMocha ) use good premier coffee beans; while making a good coffee drink has many important factors involved, it is important that barista knows what they are doing while making the drinks. I like the fact that eMocha drinks are made in front of the customers, some Peets coffee shops also employ making the drinks in front of the customers.
eMocha Cafe has pretty strong model for a new cafe, i am not sure about its success (Union City location is the only location i been to) but it definitely has good coffee for sure…I cannot say anything about any other services they offer
