Performance at what cost?
Enough with the performance, let’s talk reliability.
memtest86, and memtest86+ show that systems can “work” even in presence of memory errors and show behavior that looks like “bugs”. I have checked numerous systems that crash or hang with memtest86 and of course, I see memory errors. Most of them are Athlons. Overclockers love to get an extra 5% performance and chip vendors push higher rates, but what about reliability? I guess you can always blame crashes on software instead of hardware since up until now, hardware has had a reputation of being more reliable than the software that runs on it.
